The "guinea pig" is a small animal like a rat and looks beautiful
like a rabbit. It is somewhat like a boar, with a big head, thick neck, a
rounded body without tail, relative to its body. It is one of the wildlife found on earth, it is a domesticated species, so
it is not found in the forests. They
have an important role in the folk culture of tribals. The guinea pig has soft hair on its body. Their hair is of many types, but they are mostly
black, white and brown. They are
between 20 to 25 centimeters in length and weight between 700 and 1200 grams.
They can live for at least 8 years.
The guinea pig usually stays in the cage. Their ability to see is less than that of humans, but their range of vision
is greater than humans. The sense of
touch, hearing and smell develops properly. Male guinea pigs reach sexual maturity in 3 to 5 weeks,
while female guinea pigs may be able to reproduce in 4 weeks and have
children before they become adults. The
guinea pig gives birth to 3-4 children at once, the newborn guinea pig's hair,
teeth, claws and partial vision develop properly.
They are vegetarian and can survive for long periods without drinking
water. The guinea pig likes to eat
grass, raw vegetables and green vegetables, such as cucumber, tomato, broccoli,
cabbage etc. They have been used for many years for scientific research. Their
meat is eaten in many countries, that is why their species is becoming extinct
which is a matter of concern.
